Description & Learning objectives

This course is a comprehensive guide to understanding child protection for advocates, including timelines, current legislation, and court procedures. The course also details the definitions of abuse, the services on offer for families, and how care processes function. The course further explains the different types of Orders, including Supervision Orders and Emergency Protection Orders, which will be aligned during the court proceedings. The course also explains how parenting assessments are carried out and the role of parents in care planning, including the support parents are entitled to.

The learning objectives are as follows:

  • To understand how parenting assessments are carried out
  • To understand the range of services available to children in need and their families
  • To understand the family court and the decision-making process

  • To know how advocates may support parents in child protection and care processes

This course is CPD accredited and is specifically for anyone working within Children Services. It is also tailored to where you live in the UK, adhering to each country’s own individual regulators - namely: Ofsted, The Care Inspectorate (Wales), The Care Inspectorate (Scotland), and The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (Northern Ireland).
